Getting Out of the House in September!

I'm making a resolution in September and getting out of the house every day! Find out where we are today!

This blog began as a personal journal where I talked about the joys and difficulties of having a newborn.  Over the past two and a half years, it’s evolved to a website with tips for stay at home moms, as well as information about great products and health food.  But the main focus of the blog hasn’t changed from when it began – I’m still basically discussing the challenges of being a new mom.

Now that I have two kids, things have gotten a lot harder.  Lately I’ve been watching television all day, everyday, and just sort of surviving – washing just enough laundry and dishes to keep us from getting buried in our own mess.

But I don’t want to just survive parenthood.  I want to enjoy my kids – that’s why I’m staying at home with them in the first place!

So here’s my new goal – I’m getting out of the house every single day for a month.  For the month of September, I’ll be going out every single day, most likely first thing in the morning, and then I’ll write about where we went here.

I was inspired to take on this challenge after discovering my new favorite website, Flylady.net.  I found it googling for tips on how to develop good habits to keep on top of household chores, and I ended up learning much more.  I became inspired after reading one of her most important tips – getting dressed, including lace-up shoes, as soon as you wake up everyday.  It’s amazing how something as simple as clothing can make a huge difference in your personal motivation!  Wearing sweats while going barefoot makes my brain think it’s time to relax – while dressing up with tennis shoes puts me in the mindset of going to work!  And since being a stay-at-home mom is my job – it makes sense to dress for success!

So today, even though it isn’t technically September yet, I began the challenge by taking my kids to Point Fermin Park in San Pedro – and because of the holiday weekend, Violet and I got to enjoy a band playing while Troy played in the sand!

Where will we go tomorrow?  You’ll have to check in to find out!

I have the same issue during the summer sometimes (getting out of the house). I think the clothing part is highly important. I’ve found that dressing a little bit more professional or nice when I’m tired or not feeling well, (because making sub plans and dealing with the aftermath of having one is harder than just showing up miserable), at work keeps me motivated through the day and makes me feel better. It is weird, but I’ve believed and lived it for years. Best of luck getting out. I know how hard it can be, especially with a new one.
