Annual Review of Blog Mission – What Value Am I Giving You?

get healthy with newmommabeckers.com!

Hooray!  New Momma Beckers has reached it’s one-year mark!  That means it’s time to reevaluate the mission of this blog, and consider what value I’m able to give you, gentle readers!

My main purpose remains to get down to a healthy weight.  I’ve made some progress this year (yay!), but I’ve still got quite a ways to go.  I’ve heard from many readers who are in the same boat I am – overweight and busy, sometimes with children to raise.  Many are looking for a magic pill, while others have given up on getting healthy.

If I could sum up everything I’ve learned this year, it’s that weight loss isn’t a mystery.  It’s hard work – good practices repeated over time.  It’s a lot like getting out of debt – good behavior repeated consistently will always prevail.  It can be difficult and it takes a lot of patience, but it works every time!

I began my weight loss journey with French Women Don’t Get Fat – and that plan was a great way to get started!  It taught me that whole foods are healthier than processed junk, that small, daily changes can make a big difference, and that vegetables, cooked well, are quite delicious.  I would absolutely recommend the plan for anyone who needs to begin transitioning from an unhealthy diet to a healthy one, and it is all you need if you have 30 pounds or less to lose.

Once I had incorporated these changes into my diet, I was ready to take the next step – limiting my carbohydrates.  I chose the low-carb plan Lindora Lean for Life because it’s worked for me in the past, and it emphasizes the importance of fruits and vegetables (requiring one of each for every meal).

Here’s where my confession comes: my fidelity to this plan up until today has been, well, spotty at best.  As a result, my weight loss has been spotty too.  No matter what diet you choose, nothing can work if you don’t follow it.

So, what value can I give to you, reader, if I don’t follow my own advice?  Well, none.  That’s why today I’m re-committing myself and starting Lindora again, full boar!  And I’m not going to quit until I’m healthy!

Here’s where the mission statement comes in:

New Momma Beckers will be a place where busy people can find strategies and useful information to assist them in adopting a healthy lifestyle, as well as motivation to continue making good, healthy choices.  I will learn these strategies and pass on motivational techniques through my own weight loss journey, which will successfully lead me to a healthy weight.

It’s nice to know I’m not alone in my desire to lose weight and be healthier, and that others struggle to achieve the same goals. You help me by trying to set a good example, without unattainable perfection.

Rebecca, I’m with you about small changes. My breakthrough came when I gave up on dieting and decided to just make sure I never put on any more weight – that was 44 pounds and 3 years ago – I just did small changes in portion size – I still eat pretty much the full range of foods and do not exercise (which I feel mildly guilty about) So good luck – take it slowly and you’ll keep it off lots longer.
