New York City Trip!

Finally, a week after returning home from our trip to New York City, I’ve got my wrap-up ready to post!!

We saved money by staying in Newark at the Best Western Robert Treat Hotel and commuting into Manhattan on the PATH train each day.  The train took about 40 minutes each way, which was a trade-off that provided us with many benefits, including:

1. A lovely view from our hotel room overlooking Rutgers University,
2. About a third of the cost on the hotel vs. similar hotels in Manhattan (leaving us more money for fun in the city), and
3. A bunch of complimentary services, including a continental breakfast each morning, shuttles to the airport and train station, and a portable crib for our use (one minor complaint here: the crib was dusty when brought up to us, and Chris and I had to wipe it down before letting Troy sleep in it).

That left us with more money to spend in Manhattan, and boy, did we have fun!  We took Troy to F.A.O. Schwartz and bought a Muppet that we made ourselves!  I found a vintage Dooney & Bourke bag at a rummage sale, and Chris took me to Tiffany & Co. so I could pretend I was Audrey Hepburn for a while.  :)

Shopping in NYC

Of course, we had to take Troy to Central Park!  He had a blast, and we really enjoyed exploring all of the little paths and trails inside the little forest in the city!

On the last day, we went downtown, and visited some major landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the 9/11 Memorial, which was an incredibly somber and moving experience.

It was an amazing trip!!!  I was a little worried about messing up Troy’s sleep schedule, but the trip didn’t faze him – he went to sleep at about the same time each night, albeit three hours later, and woke up when we did.  He really enjoyed exploring with us – and I am very glad we took his stroller, as its familiarity probably helped him feel a bit more comfortable as we trekked around.  :)

All in all, awesome trip!!

Looks like it was a great trip! Traveling with kids can be challenging, and sometimes throws off their sleep schedule, but it’s so fun watching them experience new things. I absolutely love traveling with my daughter. :)
