Why I Follow "French Women Don’t Get Fat"

French Women Don't Get Fat book coverIf you are like me and have more than 50 pounds to lose, it is tempting to try drastic measures in order to achieve your goals.  However, I’ve found in the past that extreme diets may work in the short term, but the weight lost almost never stays off.

Limiting carbohydrates to ketosis-inducing levels will make you lose weight relatively quickly, but I’ve tried it twice, and have gained back everything I lost both times, plus some.  Similarly, eating only prepackaged foods helps you avoid the temptation of indulging, but it teaches you nothing about how to make good eating choices, and without knowledge, you’re doomed to repeat the bad choices you’ve made in the past.

I’ve learned from my mistakes, and now I’m following a plan that is making me healthy, as well as thin.  The diet plan I follow can’t really be called a diet – because it’s not a short term solution.  What the program does is to teach me how thin people eat.  What do I mean by that?  Well…

1. FWDGF stresses eating whole foods.

Fresh fruits and vegetables have nutrients that help your body stay healthy, and when bought fresh, they are delicious.  I only feed Troy organic fruits and vegetables – why wouldn’t I base my diet on them too?

2. FWDGF allows indulgences.

Think about your favorite “unhealthy” food.  Now, can you imagine giving that up for the rest of your life?  Even if you could, why should you?  Thin people indulge in “unhealthy” fare from time to time.  What FWDGF teaches you is how to manage those indulgences, and limit them to things you really enjoy.

3. Through FWDGF, I’m losing weight at a healthy pace.

I’ve been on unhealthy diets in the past where I’ve lost almost a pound a day.  It’s exciting and fun – until all that weight comes back on.  Then it’s incredibly depressing.  Now, I’m eating in a healthy way, and because I’m losing weight at a normal pace, my body has time to adjust itself and recalibrate what it considers my “normal” weight to be.

There’s a reason the turtle wins the race.  The rabbit might be faster, but he never reaches the goal.  And I’m proud to be a turtle!  I’m gonna cross that finish line – with a huge turtle smile on my face!

If you want to lose weight, but aren’t sure how to do it, I strongly recommend following this program!  Find more information here: and I wish you the best of luck, although if you follow the plan, you won’t need it!!!

You are absolutely right – I lost over 30 pounds by simple small changes including not eating anything I didn’t like, serving myself so I could put a little less on the plate and stopping eating the moment I felt full. Cheers

I am going to have to read this book, I am losing weight also and would like more information to combine with what I am re-learning. I agree that everything needs to be balanced to the point where you allow indulgences. :)

Following you back from the GFC hop. I am a terrible yo-yo dieter. I gain and lose the same 10-15 pounds periodically. Granted 3 of those times were for having babies, but I can positively say that 2 or 3 more times that I have lost it were due to my own bad eating choices. I have never heard of this before, though. Sounds interesting.

I love everything French- of course they have a great diet plan, right?
Americans are so silly with diet fads- I have my family eating as whole as possible.
