|Jeff Foxworthy – the host & a really nice guy!!|
What’s more fun to watch than a game show? I love watching people compete to win awesome prizes or huge sums of cash! Whether the show has briefcases, showcases, or million-dollar questions, I always get pulled in, and end up rooting for the players to win big!
There’s a new show premiering on GSN that has everything a great game show should have, and one thing that completely sets it apart. Like other game shows, the set is colorful, the atmosphere is fun, and the host, Jeff Foxworthy, is friendly and affable. The contestants, in three-person teams, compete to win $20,000 using their knowledge and wits!
What sets the show apart, you may ask? Two things: first, the contestants are playing for charity. That’s not so different – many game shows have episodes where proceeds are given to worthy causes, although in most cases, the players are celebrities.
Second, and this is what makes the show unique, the contestants are competing using their knowledge of the Bible!
The show is called “The American Bible Challenge,” and in some ways it’s exactly what you’d expect, and in other ways, it’s completely different! The questions asked range from easy (ones I and anyone who has seen “The Ten Commandments” could answer) to extremely challenging, while the categories designed for the questions are silly and fun.
Is it a Biblical city, or a planet in the “Star Wars” universe? What Biblical story is this 5-year-old trying to retell? What would Jesus tweet?
As for the music? The show has a gospel choir that transitions it in and out of commercial breaks! Their voices are very good, and the music is uptempo and lively, setting the mood perfectly for the show!
I got an opportunity to visit the set this weekend with some other bloggers, and Jeff spoke to us about why he decided to do the show. He said that what sold him on it was that people weren’t playing for themselves, but were instead playing to bless others.
He also said, “Sometimes Christians are not as joyful as we should be,” and in my experience, that’s true. There will probably be people who say the show isn’t taking the material seriously enough, but in Jeff’s words, “If we’re made in God’s image, we have all of his attributes – and one of them is joy!” And he’s right. There’s no reason the Bible can’t be fun – and the show proves that!
Will you watch when it premieres? I’ll be tuned in!! Check it out on Thursday, August 23 on GSN!
